Andrew Nelson has served as the Mayor of Bryan since November, 2016. He is also currently the CEO Lisam America, a software company he founded in 2010 with the Texas A&M University System and Lisam Systems in Belgium.
Andrew has been married to Shelley Nelson for twenty-two years. Their daughter, Rachel, graduated from Bryan High in 2018 and is currently a sophomore at Texas A&M University. Their son, Matthew, is a senior at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Bryan.
A member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of ‘92, Andrew graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and remains active with Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M University System. Andrew has served as a mentor and speaker to students at Start-up Aggieland and veterans of the Entrepreneur Veterans Boot Camp at the May’s Business School. He currently serves on the Industry Advisory Council for the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Texas A&M University System RELLIS Academic and Workforce Advisory Committee. He is a regular guest speaker at the Dwight Look College of Engineering and Mays Business School.
Andrew has worked for years to ensure Bryan is best positioned to attract businesses to the community with the ultimate goal of creating jobs. He serves as President of the Bryan Economic Development Corporation and the Bryan Brazos County Economic Development Corporation. He also serves on the Brazos Valley Economic Development Foundation and the Brazos Valley Council of Governments. Prior to serving as Mayor, Andrew served on the Bryan Business Council and the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee for the City of Bryan.
Andrew has been active in numerous charitable and civic causes throughout our community. He is a Founding Trustee of Brazos Valley Cares, providing grants and emergency funds to meet critical needs of local veterans and their families. He has also served on the boards of the Bryan Rotary Club and Bryan United Little League, amongst others.
Mayor Nelson has lived in the Brazos Valley most of his life. Andrew and his wife of twenty two years, Shelley, have a daughter, Rachel, a sophomore at Texas A&M University, and a son, Matthew, a senior at St. Joseph Catholic School. Andrew’s family attends St. Joseph Catholic Church where Andrew’s father, Gary, is a Deacon. They have been supporters of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic School, BISD Foundation, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity, The Children’s Museum, The Community Foundation, the Queen Theatre, Hospice Brazos Valley, the Salvation Army, Scotty’s House, the Hispanic Forum, Bubba Moore Memorial, OPAS and the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra.
